Stephen Amell may want to avoid Twitter for a few days. Angry fans are attacking the actor on social media after he defended Texas in a tweet days after Ahmed Mohamed’s arrest — see his controversial tweet.

Many people were outraged when 14-year-old Texas resident Ahmed Mohamed was arrested on September 14 after a teacher mistook a homemade clock he had brought to school for a bomb. Arrow star Stephen Amell, 34, took to his Twitter on September 16 to express his somewhat different stance on the situation. His comments did not rub many of his fans the right way, though.

Fans replied to Stephen’s tweets expressing their disappointment in his views.

After realizing he had offended many people, Stephen tweeted an apology:

In case you missed it, Ahmed’s arrest drew national attention because many believe it had with him being Muslim. The hashtag #istandwithahmed started trending as soon as people learned about Ahmed’s arrest.
