Uh oh. Jimmy Fallon blasted Justin Bieber for bailing on a sketch that was planned for the Sept. 2 episode of ‘The Tonight Show.’ Justin came on to promote his new song, ‘What Do You Mean?’ but he refused to take part in the bit that was planned weeks in advance.
Jimmy Fallon, 40, just revealed how upset he is with Justin Bieber, 21. Before his Sept. 2 appearance on The Tonight Show, Justin decided (at the last minute) that he didn’t want to take part in a planned skit. Up until now, Jimmy kept quiet about the incident, but he seems to have had a change of heart.
Justin came on the show to perform and promote his new single, “What Do You Mean?” but he was also supposed to do a fun sketch with Jimmy, which nearly all guests who appear on the show are asked to do. The request is made well in advance for the guest, as well as the show to prepare for.
Well, Jimmy told Billboard that the morning of the show, they had “laid out the plan in a tweet to his 29.2 million Twitter followers.” On Sept. 2, Jimmy tweeted that Justin would “do something fun” and then play a song backed by Tonight Show house band The Roots. Any fan of the show knows “something fun” means either an awesome game or an epic round of Musical Impressions.
But Jimmy recounted that sometime between that morning’s tweet and lunchtime, Justin changed his mind and declined to do the planned bit. “It’s like, I don’t care,” Jimmy told the magazine. “I mean, I wish they’d told me weeks ago because today’s the day, and now we have to crunch and think of an idea to do. And I have to apologize to the crew guys who built the set and the wardrobe people and everyone.” Jimmy then excused Justin’s behavior a bit when he said, “But it’s not what he does. He’s here to sing, so as long as he’s comfortable and it sounds good then we did our job. And if I talk to him and make him funny and make him look good, that’s my job. That’s all I have to do.”
Wow. Jimmy handled that like a true pro. Unfortunately, Justin’s recent behavior shows that he’s still got a ways to go in that department. Just this week, he had to play nice after dissing fellow Canadian singer Shawn Mendes, 17. When asked by a radio host about the “Stiches” singer, he threw shade, saying, “Who’s Shawn Mendes?” All of Shawn’s fans unleashed their internet wrath on Justin, who then took to his social media account on Sept. 17 to give Shawn some major props.
It’s a shame Justin decided to bail on his sketch, because nearly all of Jimmy’s celebrity bits go on to become HUGE internet sensations. Who can the forget “Wheel of Musical Impressions” done by top stars like Christina Aguilera and Ariana Grande, or Jimmy and Justin Timberlake having an entire conversation with no words. What a missed opportunity, Biebs!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Justin was being unprofessional by bailing on the sketch at the last minute?
