Congratulations! Chris Hardwick, the man behind The Nerdist and host of Comedy Central’s ‘@Midnight,’ proposed to actress Lydia Hearst on Sept. 12. Lydia made Chris the happiest nerd in the world — she said yes! Wait until you see the ring he gave her!
Points! Chris Hardwick, 43, normally rewards contestants on @Midnight for giving the right answer. But, when his girlfriend, Lydia Hearst, 30, responded to his question — “Will You Marry Me?” — it was Chris who was the winner! She said yes and the happy couple is now engaged!
Isn’t love great? Chris proved that nerds are romantic, popping the question to Lydia on Sept. 12, reports US Weekly. The CEO of The Nerdist proposed to the Cabin Fever: Patient Zero actress and they sealed their engagement with a kiss.
“Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favorite,” Lydia captioned the photo of her and Chris in a romantic embrace after she said yes! “You completely swept me off my feet. You have shown me what it feels like to be loved and I love you with all my heart.”
Awwwww! How sweet! Literally — as it turns out Chris proposed using a candy ring. In a post to his own Instagram, Chris detailed his romantic plan. They attended the Creative Arts Emmys, where Chris won the award for Outstanding Social TV Experience. Amazing! That wouldn’t be the highlight of Chris’s day. After the ceremony, Chris took her to the Chateau Marmont in California. When they got to their room, it was filled with wild flower bouquets and rose petals!
All snazzed up on the red carpet! @lydiahearst had NO IDEA what I was planning for later. I told her there was a small Emmy after party at the Chateau Marmont. When we got up to the room I had to confess that I had tricked her when I pulled out the room key. I opened the door and the room was filled with wild flower bouquets and purple rose petals all over the floor (apologies to the housekeeping dept). And then…IT HAPPENED. I pulled out a candy ring (the one she's getting for real is in NY and needs to be sized). She affirmed that this union was mutually agreeable by bursting into tears. Then there was kissing and cry breath. It was a scene so romantic, I'm surprised a Rachel McAdams movie didn't break out around it. I'm guessing it will ultimately be the only Hearst wedding whose registry includes @thinkgeek. (photo credit: JB Lacroix for @gettyimages)
My biggest win of the night was actually @lydiahearst saying YES!!!! This ring belonged to her grandmother Catherine Hearst and @patriciahearst has graciously and wonderfully passed it down to me to give to Lydia. IT'S OFFICIAL!!! What an absolutely perfect and amazing night!! I love this woman with all my heart….#YesThisMeansWhatYouThinkItMeans
He had to propose with a candy ring because the real one was in New York, getting properly sized. Chris included a shot of the ring and WOW. It’s GORGEOUS. The huge diamond originally belonged to Lydia’s grandmother, Catherine Hearst, and Lydia’s mother, Patricia Hearst, handed it down to her daughter!
We can’t wait for their marriage! Though the ceremony won’t be broadcast on television, we hope @Midnight regulars Doug Benson, Paul F. Tompkins and Nikki Glaser will be there. Points! Points for all!
Amazing! We’re so happy for them. Leave your congratulations for Chris and Lydia below, HollywoodLifers!
