‘Dancing With The Stars’ Recap: Paula Deen Pees Her Pants On Premiere

Mon, September 14, 2015 10:07pm EDT by Emily Longeretta 5 Comments

Season 21 has officially begun! On Sept. 14, the pros and the new celebs took the dance floor — er, Hollywood Blvd — to strut their stuff! So, who look good and who… doesn’t?

This season of Dancing with the Stars started off like most: a lot of celebrities who may or may not be dance-challenged. However, there is SO much potential this time around! Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Julianne Hough (now in the center spot) returned to DWTS for the premiere, and let’s just say, whether the season 21 celebs were doing the Cha Cha, Quickstep, Jive, Foxtrot or Salsa for their first dance, it was actually impressive!

Victor Espinoza and Karina Smirnoff started the show with the Salsa dance to “G.D.F.R.” by Flo Rida. He was clearly not a dancer, but totally put in the effort — Julianne said “big things come in small packages,” AKA, she was impressed even though the height difference was comical. Bruno added he liked the grinding, but wasn’t sure he could keep up the steps. Hey, it’s night one! 15/30

Tamar Braxton and Valentin Chmerkovskiy did the Quickstep to “Do Your Thing” by Basement Jaxx, and basically it was shocking that it was night one — that girl can dance! Bruno pointed out it was impressive she could keep up with Val’s movements. Carrie Ann (like me) was blown away, and Julianne loved her femininity, but gave her a tip to keep her posture. 23/30

Chaka Khan and Keo Motsepe (AKA the royal couple) did the Cha Cha to her own song, “I Feel For You.” Carrie Ann kind of called her out for having “too much fun” and forgetting to actually dance, but her “glorious entrance” from the ceiling was pretty extravagant. Chaka wasn’t too upset about her score, because she knows she needs more training. Sweetie! 13/30

Hayes Grier (AKA “T-Rex”) and Emma Slater did the Cha Cha to “Cheerleader” by Omi, and while he’s clearly not a dancer, he gave it a good shot in sparkles! It got Julianne “really really excited,” but told him to focus on his core strength and open his pretty eyes! Bruno called him a “boy wonder,” which we agree with for sure. Carrie Ann was a little too into him, if you know what I mean. 21/30

Andy Grammer and Allison Holker did the Foxtrot to “Marvin Gaye” by Charlie Puth ft. Meghan Trainor. Andy, who decided to do the show in memory of his late mother, dud such a romantic, fluent dance! While Carrie Ann felt #Andison weren’t connecting, Julianne felt the complete opposite! Also, Andy got emotional, and even brought his mom’s BFF. As if we didn’t already love him. 21/30

Paula Deen and Louis van Amstel did the Quickstep to “Hey Good Lookin’ by Carol Welsman, and I’m just going to say, she looked so happy and was having fun! He’s definitely very sweet for her. Carrie Ann saw potential for sure, but the scared Paula definitely came through. She was actually so scared she said that her underwear was white when she started, but probably not at the end. #TMIgirl. 15/30

Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson did the Jive to “I Got You (I Feel Good)” by James Brown, and basically, they were so good it was INSANE. His dancing was so on point and their chemistry, as Julianne said, was spot on. Carrie Ann pointed out the obvious — his musicality was so great! He even jumped over her head! But did he beat his wife? Hmm. 23/30

Alexa PenaVega and Mark Ballas did the Jive to “Whistle (While You Work It)” by Katy Tiz. She definitely showed off her curves — no Spy Kid any more! And she could dance — she has so much chemistry with Mark (even with her hubby watching). Carrie Ann said she had to watch her crazy arm, but Julianne was so impressed with how much content was in the dance! 22/30

Kim Zolciak Biermann and Tony Dovolani did the Salsa (with tears) to “Hey Mama” by David Guetta ft. Nicki Minaj, Afrojack & Bebe Rexha. Carrie Ann gave her a good tip to not hold back, and told her she was just doing the “bare minimum.” We love Kim, but we agree. Julianne said it felt like “slow motion.” Bruno said she has SO much body, but did nothing with it — however, Kim did it and she was proud of herself, so that’s a good thing! 12/30

Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough did the Jive to “Crocodile Rock” by Elton John. It was sweet how much she spoke about her dad, and how she was dancing to make him proud — and he would have been! She had so much fun and definitely potential. Julianne (who is a little biased) said it was the best of the night, and Carrie Ann said he energy was beyond contagious! 24/30

Gary Busey and Anna Trebunskaya did the Cha Cha to “Dancing in the Street” by David Bowie & Mick Jagger. “I dance in a cosmos of riddles. Nothing means anything to me if I have to think about it.” Yes, that’s what Gary said after the dance, which included walking and high kicks. Really. Carrie Ann wanted more, and Julianne admitted they were entertained! 15/30

Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold did the Foxtrot to “Ten Feet Tall” by Afrojack ft. Wrabel, and he was very graceful! Carrie Ann was shocked in a great way, and called it “one of the best dances of the night,” and Julianne agreed — he was “definitely the surprise of the night.” Bruno said he was “born to ballroom,” and I have to agree! 22/30

Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess did the Cha Cha to “I Don’t Like It, I Love It” by Flo. Rida ft. Robin Thicke. And uh, I loved it and he was my favorite of the night (maybe because of BSB, but anyways). He totally mixed in the BSB movements (below) and we all died — including Sharna and Julianne, who totally had him on their walls as kids. Me too! 24/30
