Uh-oh. A reporter foolishly asked Serena Williams why she wasn’t smiling during a press conference on Sept. 8. Serena quickly slammed the reporter over that nonsense! Click to watch her incredible reply!
Serena Williams, 33, doesn’t have time for silly questions — she has tennis history to make! During a press conference after she beat her sister, Venus Williams, 35, in the 2015 US Open quarterfinals, a reporter asked Venus why she wasn’t smiling. Uh-oh. Serena verbally backhanded the question the same way she’s dominated her competition!
While fans tuned in to se the epic match between the Williams sisters on Sept. 8, the night wasn’t over for Serena when she defeated Venus. She still had the post-game press conference to do. During the Q&A, one reporter tried to serve an ace of a question, but Serena fired back an answer that shut him down!
“You just won a match,” the reporter began. “Normally, you smile when you win. You come in here here, you laugh. What happens tonight? Is it because you beat Venus or because you’re thinking about what is going on next? What’s wrong?”
Oooh. Serena decided to lay the smack down on not just that reporter, but to all those who were asking her questions that night. “It’s 11:30,” she said. “To be perfectly honest with you, I don’t want to be here.”
“I just want to be in bed right now,” Serena said, adding that she had to “wake up early to practice and I don’t want to answer any of these questions. And you keep asking me the same questions. It’s not really — you’re not making it super enjoyable.” Serena then breaks out in a laugh at the ridiculousness of the moment, giving the reporter the smile he wanted. Game, Set, Match: Serena!
Serena will have a reason to smile if she wins the US Open. With a victory at this Major tennis tournament, Serena will complete a Calendar Grand Slam, or a win at every Major tournament in a single season. The last woman to do that was Steffi Graf in 1988. With the way things are going, Serena might just make tennis history this year!
What did you think about Serena’s response, HollywoodLifers? Do you think she served an ace or double-faulted?
