Serena Williams suffered perhaps the most devastating loss of her career at the US Open on Sept. 11, but that didn’t stop fans from congratulating her for an incredible year. One of her most famous supporters is Michelle Obama, who tweeted love to the tennis star!
In an unbelievable upset at the 2015 US Open, Serena Williams, 33, was robbed of her chance to make history after being defeated by No. 42 seed, Roberta Vinci, 32, in the tournament’s semifinals. Almost immediately, support for the tennis great flooded Twitter, including a sweet message from the First Lady herself, Michelle Obama, 51!
Before her loss, Serena was on her way to a calendar Grand Slam — a feat that hasn’t been achieved since Steffi Graf did it in 1988. The tennis legend had already won the Australian Open, the French Open, and Wimbledon this year, meaning she only had the US Open left to reach the amazing accomplishment. Unfortunately for Serena, Roberta brought her A-game and took the chance away. But that didn’t stop Michelle from recognizing Serena’s achievements!
