After Liam Payne was accused of being homophobic for a comment he made at a concert in August, he quickly fired back on Twitter. But in an ‘Attitude’ magazine interview, he brought Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson into the mix, and suddenly it’s Liam vs. critics round two!
Liam Payne, 22, is the cover star for the October 2015 issue of Attitude magazine, a gay lifestyle publication in the UK. Considering he defended himself against homophobic allegations just about a month before the issue came out, he’s making quite the statement! Once readers got a hold of the interview, though, they saw some comments about Liam’s fellow bandmates Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, and he’s in hot water again — but he wasn’t afraid to shut haters down once more!

In case you missed it, at a concert in August, Liam introduced One Direction‘s song “Girl Almighty” and referred to a monotonous relationship, which fans interpreted to be homophobic. He quickly took to Twitter to deny the claims, adding “I’m not here to offend people so take it as you will.” This wasn’t the first time Liam had to defend a misinterpreted comment, either — he was also called out for a “homophobic” tweet to Duck Dynasty‘s Willie Robertson in 2014!
Just as things seemed to calm down for Liam, he decided to mention the fan fiction shipping of Harry and Louis, otherwise known as “Larry Stylinson,” in his Attitude interview. He said that just after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized gay marriage, “There were loads of rainbow flags flying at our shows, but I think that was mainly because people think of the Louis and Harry thing, which is absolutely nuts and drives me insane.”
As you could probably guess, critics were not happy. Some even said Liam was “playing victim” over all of the accusations! Of course, Liam wasn’t going to hold back from fighting back on Twitter! “It’s funny I thought people appreciated honesty these days,” he said in one tweet.
“Can see people saying I’m playing ‘the victim’ I don’t feel even 1% a victim at all I had a wonderful time doing the shoot,” he continued. “And am blessed with the best job in the world massive thank you to @AttitudeMag for having me along and for everyone who enjoyed reading.”
You tell ’em, Liam! Some fans came to his defense as well, calling him a “fighter” and “inspiration.” Even if he didn’t have dedicated Directioners to back him up, it sounds like Liam has got the self-defense stuff down!
