So shocking. The NYPD just released video of one of their officers aggressively grabbing former tennis star James Blake, throwing him to the ground and arresting him. James was wrongfully identified as another man who was a suspect in a credit card fraud case. Watch it here.
Former tennis star James Blake was arrested in a case of mistaken identity on Sept. 9. He was viciously thrown to the ground and handcuffed by a plain-clothed officer while in New York City for the US Open. The NYPD released video of the arrest, proving that James’ description of the incident wasn’t so far fetched.
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton allegedly apologized, according to TMZ, saying James looks almost identical to a guy who was a suspect in a credit card fraud case. Ironically, that guy was proven innocent and the real suspect is still on the loose.
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, James spoke to reporters outside the Grand Hyatt Hotel on East 42nd Street, following the arrest, and he said he wanted an apology from the five officers who attacked him.
“It shouldn’t have happened,” James told reporters from ABC News and NBC News. “It’s something we’ll deal with with the police and we’ll find out what they have to say internally. Hopefully there’s video of it and people can see what happened.”
Well, now there is. And we have a feeling people will have a lot to say about it. At least James got the apology he wanted. But after watching the video ourselves, we think he deserves more than a “sorry.”
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Should James Blake press charges? How do you feel after watching the video?
