Zack Snyder Slams Marvel

Director Zack Snyder is tired of people trash talking his Batman, and now he’s directing the heat towards Marvel films — especially the overhyped but underwhelming ‘Ant-Man.’ Ouch.

Zack Snyder, 49, has revealed how he really feels about Marvel movies… and it’s definitely not good. While discussing what the legendary Stephen Spielberg said about superhero movies fading out in the future, Zack unleashed and defended both Batman and Superman all the while slamming Marvel’s superheroes. So, does this mean we shouldn’t expect a crossover film?

As far as Zack Snyder is concerned, the superheroes in the Marvel universe have nothing on Batman and Superman. When Mr. Spielberg said, “there will be a time when the superhero movie goes the way of the Western,” Zack actually agreed with him. However, there’s a big “but” that comes after that.

“I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman,” Zack told the Daily Beast. However, he also used his answer to take a shot at Marvel’s Ant-Man, which was the lowest grossing film of their massive superhero empire. “They’re not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man — not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?” Burn.

When spoke EXCLUSIVELY to Zack, he elaborated a bit. “I don’t think it is about proving that wrong but for me I believe Batman and Superman are transcendent of genre, they are more American mythology,” he explained. “They are their own pop culture. They are not a genre, with Batman and Superman, you can walk down the street or down in Times Square and see a host of people with Superman t-shirts on or Batman t-shirts on, it is just what is in our culture.”

Zack also said told us he doesn’t think Batman and Superman fall into the “superhero” genre. We are so glad we got to catch up with Zack while he and Doritos were promoting the Crash the Super Bowl contest, in which one lucky winner will actually get to work alongside him!
