Being Miss America isn’t always glamour and glitz; there’s real hardships in there, too. Pageant queen Kira Kazantsev sat down with the HollywoodLife.com podcast to share her experience of being Miss America — and some of the downsides that come with it.
Since becoming Miss America 2015, Kira Kazantsev, 25, has had a pretty positive response; but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any haters out there. Kira told HollywoodLife.com that she’s been the target of vicious tweets and cyberbullies since being crowned. Terrible!
“We definitely face a lot of social media scrutiny,” Kira said about her and her fellow pageant contestants. “It can be challenging when people talk about you and put things on the internet, and I get direct tweets from people that say really awful things sometimes.”
“And it can be really hard, so you kind of just have to let it roll off your shoulder and not think twice about it,” she continued. “So you have to grow a thick skin very quickly.”
Poor Kira! It’s hard to imagine why anyone would want to send hate to her or anyone competing in Miss America; they haven’t done anything wrong! Kira is ignoring the haters and getting through it with grace, though. She’s even using her experiences to speak to young girls about cyberbullying in her “Vow to End It” campaign.
“I think sometimes girls forget and boys too that words really really do hurt and they sting and they last forever,” Kira said. “They’re going to be on the internet forever. So if you’re going to post it, you better make sure that you’re invested in that and not regret it later.” Totally true! We’re glad she’s letting kids know about this at an early age!
Another thing that makes being Miss America a bit challenging? The expectation that you must be peppy and pretty all the time! “A lot of people don’t realize that I’m in a different city every two days,” Kira said. “I travel every month and I’m still expected to show up to every event bright eyed and bushy tailed looking great and knowing what I’m talking about.
“It can be the most challenging year in the world, but it’s also the most rewarding year of your life.” Well said, Kira! HollywoodLifers, what are your thoughts on Kira’s remarks? Tell us in the comments and take our poll!
