This is so sweet! Bindi Irwin paid tribute to her later father Steve on Sept. 6, commemorating Australia’s National Father’s Day with a picture of the late crocodile hunter and some very heartfelt words.
It’s been nine years since the crocodile hunter Steve Irwin tragically died in a freak sting ray attack on September 4, 2006. And on Sept. 6, 2015, his daughter Bindi Irwin, 17, took to Instagram to pay tribute to her late father in celebration of Australia’s National Father’s Day. See her touching tribute here!
“Thinking about home today,” Bindi captioned the above photo of her father with a giant crocodile. “Father’s Day is today in Australia and everyone is celebrating at Australia Zoo. It’s such a special time of year, I hope everyone who comes to the zoo today is able to enjoy it with our gorgeous animals.
Bindi, who is currently preparing to compete in the new season of Dancing With The Stars, concluded her note with a heartbreaking remark. “No matter where I am in the world, this day means such a lot to me,” the teen shared with fans. “My heart forever lives @AustraliaZoo – just like Dad’s always did.”
Since her father’s tragic passing at the age of 44, Bindi (who was just eight-years-old at the time) has joined forces with her mom Terri, and her brother Robert, 11, to run Queenslands’s Australia Zoo. The facility was previously managed by Steve, who took over the zoo in the ’90s. Something tells us Steve would be very proud of his little crocodile hunter and her continued efforts to carry on his legacy.

Bindi is currently stationed in Los Angels, where she is gearing up for her new role on the next season of DWTS. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, the wildlife conservationist opened up about her new gig and what inspired her to join the show. “I’ll always feel most comfortable in khaki surrounded by animals, but it is really fun to try different styles,” Bindi explained. “I hope [my dad would] be proud. That’s my end goal. He was like our living, breathing superhero. He was so passionate and clever.”
