You’ve never heard a Sam Smith song quite like this! Hozier totally amped things up in his cover of Sam’s hit song ‘Lay Me Down,’ and even got approval from the British singer himself. Could a collaboration between these two be happening in the future?
Okay, so this is EPIC! Hozier completely nailed his cover of Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down” in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, giving the ballad an upbeat twist and totally blowing our minds. Watch it here — and check out Sam’s reaction!
The normally slow song got a whole new sound thanks to Hozier, who played it with an up-tempo track in the background. He sounds amazing and looks totally at-ease performing the song, and Sam — whose 2014 album you can buy here — was totally impressed.
“Brother @Hozier — f***ing love the Live Lounge cover!!!!!” he tweeted. ” Anything yo using makes me heart jump xx Big kisses sir xx.” The “Take Me To Church” singer saw his pal’s tweet, and gushed in response. “Ahh! Thrilled you like it!!” he wrote. “Was an absolute joy to cover – hope you’re keeping well man x.”
Both these artists are from across the pond, so wouldn’t it be just the BEST idea if they collaborated musically? Well, the question has been posed to Hozier before, and he admitted it’s a possibility. “It has crossed my mind, and nothing is definite, but there’s been very brief discussion about it,” he told Mix 104.1 in Nov. 2014. “So you never know.” Ummm..let’s do it!
Meanwhile, both Hozier and Sam have been laying low for the last few months, so hopefully that means they’ve been spending time in the studio — perhaps with each other? We’ll be waiting anxiously either way!
HollywoodLifers — what did you think of Hozier’s cover? Do you think these two should collaborate?
