Concerned about the future of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ now that Patrick Dempsey is a goner? Don’t be. A source reveals that season 12 will be parallel to the good times and light-hearted episodes of it’s first season.
Are you ready for season 12 of Grey’s Anatomy? The premiere is set for Sept. 12th, and in a new interview with HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site Variety, a well-placed source revealed what’s in store for our favorite doctors, including Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). RIP, MerDer!
Alright, how can any of us — especially Meredith — truly carry on with ourselves now that Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd is gone for good? Whether or not you want to believe it, there is hope for Grey’s after all, and it lies within the relationship-based foundation Shonda Rhimes built the show on.
For it’s 12th season, the doctors or Grey-Sloane are headed back to the days of flirting, dating, sex and more, a source close to the show revealed to Variety. The source shared that the new season will be a bit of a “throwback” to the first season, when Meredith and Derek accidentally fell in love after what should have been a one night stand. However, don’t expect to see Meredith jumping into the sack with anyone any time soon.
“I have not planned to [bring in a love interest for Meredith], and that’s not really the focus of what we’re doing with her right now,” Shonda told Variety at the 2015 Television Critics’ Assn. Tour. “I think Meredith is in a rebirth and she’s evolving. I’m watching the character do what the character’s doing and I’ll see where it goes. I’m not going to say we’re definitely not doing it, because I could be wrong, but that’s not my plan right now. You can’t just drop a guy in and be like, ‘There he is!’”
As for the rumors that new male lead Martin Henderson will be Meredith’s next great love, as Shonda said that is definitely not in the cards. For now. Either way, no one ever will — or ever can — replace the original McDreamy.
