How is this the same man who played Walter White? Bryan Cranston took on the role of LBJ on Broadway’s ‘All The Way,’ and is now leading the HBO biopic with the same title. The first look pic will absolutely shock you!
It’s a fact now: Bryan Cranston is literally unstoppable and can play anything. From meth cooker to president, the 59-year-old actor looks absolutely stunning as Lyndon B. Johnson in the first photo from the HBO biopic — and the resemblance to the former President is really uncanny.
“Physically and emotionally, Bryan completely channels LBJ,” director Jay Roach told PEOPLE. “We just filmed him and Lady Bird in the Oval Office, after JFK’s assassination. LBJ has arrived as the ‘accidental President.’ He’s almost overwhelmed. In spiritual support, Lady Bird touches his cheek. We melted, like we went back in time and witnessed a private, heart-wrenching moment between these two great people.”
In September 2013, Bryan made his Broadway debut in All the Way, and really impressed the audiences. Now, he’ll play the role again in 2016 for the HBO biopic. He then took home the Best Actor Tony for his portrayal. Jay Roach was completely moved by his performance, calling him”mesmerizing, brilliant, funny, [and] larger-than-life.” And HollywoodLife.com staff can agree — Bryan completely blew us away too. So for the film, all those emotions will continue, “but without camera, LBJ also charms you from very up close.”
“It covers the amazing 11-month journey from when LBJ takes office after JFK’s assassination, through LBJ’s fight to pass the 1964 Civil Rights Act and his own presidential campaign, culminating on the night LBJ is actually elected to the office – no longer the ‘accidental President,’ ” Jay continued.
We know that Bryan never slows down. He’s also the writer and EP on Amazon’s Sneaky Pete (and makes a cameo!). Well we love it! Do you think he looks amazing as LBJ? Let us know!
