Rosie O’Donnell is a passionate supporter of #BlackLivesMatter, as are many, after the string of police brutality cases in the United States. Rosie called out former fellow ‘View’ co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck for attacking the movement on Fox News.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck, 38, questioned the validity of #BlackLivesMatter on Fox and Friends August 31, asking if it should be classified a hate group — a move that Rosie O’Donnell, 53, found ignorant. She called out Elisabeth on Twitter for her views. Though her tweet sounded calm, the anger behind it was all too real.
“Why has the #BlackLivesMatter movement not been classified yet as a hate group?” Elisabeth asked commentator Kevin Jackson while discussing the death of a police deputy in Texas on August 28 by an African-American suspect. “I mean, how much more has to go in this direction before someone actually labels it as such?”
Her comments were clearly considered controversial, especially since #BlackLivesMatter is popularly considered an activism group — one that formed after the deaths of African-Americans like Michael Brown in Ferguson.
Rosie took offense with Elisabeth’s words, and took to Twitter to blast the Fox News host for her diss. “Hasselbeck asked, ‘Kevin, why has the Black Lives Matter movement not been classified yet as a hate group? …’ some r slow 2 wake,” Rosie tweeted. Powerful words! Here, Rosie is suggesting that Elisabeth is ignorant about what’s really going on with the movement — and doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
Your move, Elisabeth! The Fox and Friends pundit is obviously very opinionated, and has a history of sparring with Rosie, so it seems likely that she’ll fire back at her former co-host from The View for calling her out. The only question is when this will happen.
HollywoodLifers, do you think Rosie’s words were warranted? Do you think Elisabeth will respond? Tell us in the comments and take our poll!
