How did we not see it before?! Scott Eastwood may have landed the lead in Taylor Swift’s ‘Wildest Dreams’ music video, but it turns out Calvin Harris also played a major role in the video — just not the one you expected! Find out the details.
Taylor Swift‘s, 25, “Wildest Dreams” music video had it all: drama, romance, exotic animals, and a hunky lead. However, we couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed over the fact that the cinematic masterpiece (yeah, we went there) didn’t feature her real-life Prince Charming Calvin Harris, 31…or did it? According to a new fan theory, Tay’s DJ boyfriend not only played an important role in the video, but was featured throughout the entire thing. Prepare to have your mind blown! If you thought those hidden easter eggs were cool, just wait until you see the sneaky way Tay featured her beau in the epic video! The theory, which has been making its way around Tumblr since the video’s release on Aug. 30, points out that Taylor — whose album, 1989, you can buy here — spends a lot of time sitting next to and posing with an African lion. Look a little closer and it looks as if the lion is actually watching over Taylor, who ultimately pursues a crash and burn love affair with Scott Eastwood‘s, 29, character. The lion is a calm force throughout the video, and appears to be protecting her at pivotal moments in the plot.
So what’s the connection to Calvin? Well, as a fan on Tumblr pointed out, the Scottish DJ actually switched his Instagram avatar to coordinate with the video’s premiere at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 30, for which he was not present. This can only mean the lion is a representation of Calvin and his love and protection over Taylor, which would make perfect sense considering he had originally wanted to be at the show to protect her from the haters (Miley Cyrus, we’re looking at you). Look at it this way, after Taylor’s Hollywood romance falls apart, the lion makes one final appearance at her side, which basically mirrors her current real-life situation, no?
Whether or not you’re on board with the theory, it’s clear that Taylor has really upped the complexity of her videos with her 1989 album. As fans have also pointed out on Tumblr, the “Wildest Dreams” video is chock full of subtle references to everything from her grandparents to her early albums to her very own BFF! Consider us impressed.
