Kanye West talked about a lot of things during his Vanguard acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs, including Justin Timberlake. Ye brought up that Justin cried when his album didn’t win the coveted ‘Album of the Year’ at the 2007 Grammys, and Justin response to the shocking (and random) shoutout will definitely surprise you.
Honestly, Justin Timberlake, 34, was the last person we thought Kanye West, 38, would bring up during his Video Vanguard award speech at the 2015 MTV VMAs on Aug. 30. Kanye called out Justin during his rant about anything and everything, bringing up that Justin cried when he lost “Album of the Year” to the Dixie Chicks in 2007. Justin caught wind of the kind of shady shoutout and took to Twitter to respond!

“I sat at the Grammys and saw Justin Timberlake and Cee Lo lose,” Kanye said during his speech. “Gnarls Barkley and the Sexyback album… Justin, I ain’t trying to put you on blast but I saw that man in tears, bro. And I was thinking like, he deserved to win “Album of the Year.” And the small box that we are as entertainers of the evening, how could you explain that?”
Justin’s reaction is pretty shocking. “Kanye is so cute, y’all,” he tweeted. He appears to have gotten some flack for the underhandedness of his comment, so he tweeted, “Jokes, you guys… Jokes. #chill.” Later, after watching the long speech, Justin wrote, “Btw… I JUST watched my man ‘Ye’s FULL speech… He always has a point. And I support it. #truth.”
While we have to admire Kanye for trying to defend other artists, did he really have to bring other artists into his heated acceptance speech? Honestly, Kanye’s speech was kind of confusing. There was so much to handle at once. So when he brought up JT in the midst of everything, everyone was like, “Say what?!”
In case you were off in another universe on Aug. 30, Kanye also announced during his speech that he was going to be running for the title of President of the United States in 2020. Yes, really. He also bashed MTV, the network who was giving him the Vanguard award. Kanye also didn’t perform after his speech. HollywoodLife.com learned EXCLUSIVELY that he had gone back-and-forth with production about his performance and even asked if he could accept the award next year. Overall, it was just a crazy night.
