‘Awkward’ is coming to an end after five wonderful seasons. The gang is finishing off their senior year at Palos Hills High School, and Ashley Rickards gets emotional thinking about saying goodbye to Jenna Hamilton (and Matty McKibben, duh). Click to WATCH!
The final season of Awkward is less than a week away, and everyone’s preparing to say goodbye to our favorite high schoolers. In a brand-new interview, Ashley Rickards, 23, opens up (and tears up) reflecting on the show that is near and dear to her heart.
“This show, in a sense, it’s very much my college years,” Ashley tells TVGuide.com. “It’s been such a permanent facet of my life for the past five years and now I’m going into this place after we finish filming [where] it’s not going to be there and it’s going to be interesting and it’s going to be scary.”
“I’m sorry,” she says as she tears up.”I’m going to miss this show a lot. I’m going to miss everybody, and I’m going to give them killer wrap gifts. This show is the end of an era in my life too, and I’m excited for our fans to see that and for our fans to share that with us.”
Jenna, Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed), Matty (Beau Mirchoff) and rest of the Awkward crew are getting ready for the rest of their lives. College awaits, but they’ve still got a good chunk of high school left to experience, which will likely include smiles, lots of laughs and many, many tears. Will Jenna and Matty finally get back together? Is there any hope for Jake and Tamara? We’re just going to have to tune and find out!
The final season of Awkward premieres Aug. 31 at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.
