Two hours after Vester Flanagan shot and killed two WDBJ employees, he released a 23-page ‘Suicide Note for Friends and Family’ where he praised past mass murderers.
This man was sicker than we thought. Vester Flanagan, 41, shot and murdered Cameraman Adam Ward, 27, and Reporter Alison Parker during a live broadcast on Aug. 26. While he was on the run from police, the gunman called ABC News, told them he murdered two innocent people and proceeded to fax them his 23-page suicide note, where he called Charleston shooter Dylann Roof and Columbine killers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold his heroes.
Vester explained that the Charleston church shooting is what inspired him to buy the gun and go through with the murder. In the suicide note, he wrote:
“Why did I do it? I put down a deposit for a gun on 6/19/15. The Church shooting in Charleston happened on 6/17/15…What sent me over the top was the church shooting. And my hollow point bullets have the victims’ initials on them.”
He also called, Seung–Hui Cho, the murderer who killed 32 people on April 16, 2007 at Virgina Tech, his “boy,” while comparing him to the Columbine shooters.
“Also, I was influenced by Seung–Hui Cho. That’s my boy right there. He got NEARLY double the amount that Eric Harris and Dylann Klebold got…just sayin.'”
Here’s a recap of the events that went down the morning of August 26. Photojournalist Adam Ward, 27, and Reporter Alison Parker, 24, were both shot and killed by Vester while conducting an interview with Smith Mountain Lake Chamber Director Vicki Gardner at a Bridgewater Plaza near Moneta on Aug. 26, reports CNN. “It’s my very sad duty to report…that Alison and Adam died this morning,” WDBJ’s general manager said on the air after the incident, reports Daily Mail.
The suspect, Vester Flanagan, was a former WDBJ employee, who had been fired. Hours after he shot and killed Adam and Alison, Vester tweeted Adam and Alison had both done things to upset him — Adam allegedly went to HR about Vester and Alison had said “racist comments” in the past.
Vester not only filmed himself shooting Adam, Alison and Vicki, but he also posted the videos on to his Twitter account, which has since been removed from the internet. The suspect allegedly shot himself on Highway I66 in Virginia just hours after he committed the crime.
Our thoughts and sympathies continue to go out to Alison and Adam’s friends, family and coworkers during this tragedy.
