It’s never really one last right, right? Just nine months ago, we said goodbye to Jax and the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ when the season finale ended the only way it could: with death. However, a new series is in the works, to focus on a different club.
Few details have been revealed so far, but we can tell you that Kurt Sutter, the creator of Sons of Anarchy has a spin-off series in the works on FX. Following the success of his first series, The Shield and his second, Sons, Kurt went on to create The Bastard Executioner, which will premiere on FX this fall.
In 2014, Kurt Sutter talked about “serious conversations” going on behind the scenes about the possibility of a prequel. However, he wasn’t too fond on doing a “spinoff.” Until now that is. We are hearing that this will focus on the Mayan Club.
“Spinoffs work well, obviously, in procedural dramas, which this is not,” he said during the panel last year. “To me, the most interesting thing about our mythology is the origins, but because we don’t do flashbacks on the show the prequel will be about the origins between John Teller and Piney Winston. My sense right now is that I don’t know if it’ll be a full-on series. It might be a miniseries. Our hope is that we’ll let the mythology rest for a couple seasons and then do the prequel, so we’re having conversations about that.”
Currently, Kurt is a little busy with this new show: he’s the creator, writer, producer, director and, actor. Yes really. He plays Dark Mute, a character with a face of prosthetics who will appear in six episodes. The Bastard Executioner begins Sept. 15 on FX. It will take a step outside the crime genre, which is a big risk for Sutter. We have a feeling though, it’ll work just fine.
