UFC fans better get ready! Ronda Rousey, the Women’s Bantamweight Champion, has announced the date of her next bout and who she’ll face. On Jan. 2, Ronda will enter the octagon and fight the undefeated Holly Holm, the fighter Ronda says is the best striker in mixed martial arts!
January can’t come fast enough for UFC fans! Ronda Rousey, 28, the undefeated UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion and, very likely, the most dangerous woman on the planet, has announced when she will step back into the Octagon. When Ronda returns to the ring, she’ll battle the woman she called her “biggest challenge to date:” the undefeated Holly Holm, 33!
After Ronda’s impressive 34-second domination of Bethe Correia at UFC 190 on Aug. 1, fans wondered who would Ronda face next. Ronda told Fox Sports that she was going to “beat up” Miesha Tate, but that’s no longer the case! During an interview with Good Morning America on Aug. 21, Ronda revealed that her next fight is with Holly and it’ll take place on Jan. 2, 2016 at UFC 195!
“[Holly] is actually the most decorated striker in all of mixed martial arts — not the women’s division, not the Bantamweight division,” said Ronda, reports Uproxx. “Like, 19 time boxing world champion Holly Holm was the Ring magazine pound-for-pound female fighter of the year and definitely my biggest challenge to date.”
Wow! Holly has a 38-2-3 professional record as a boxer and she’s won multiple championships in different weight classes. In MMA, she is 9-0 with 6 victories coming from knockouts. Ronda is right — Holly will be her biggest challenge yet! If Ronda was sweating Holly, she didn’t show it. She told GMA, “I’m super excited about it.” When asked about if she thinks she could take Holly, Ronda replied, “Of course. I can take anybody. She’s not the first undefeated chick I’ve fought.”
Holly won’t be only the undefeated fighter Ronda’s faced, but she’s got some punching power that Ronda has to worry about. Calling Holly “the type that is ready to go 12 boxing rounds. It’s not the average chick I would fight. She’s the best striker I’ve ever fought and striking is something I’ve learned much later in my career.”
Will Holly do what 12 other MMA fighters have failed to do and hand Ronda her first loss while taking her championship? Or will Ronda overcome Holly’s deadly fists to secure another win? Either way, the fight on Jan. 2, 2016 will be incredible and MMA fans can’t wait!
