Get ready to feel really old. Today, Aug. 21, marks the day 15 years ago that Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson were cast as Harry, Ron and Hermione in the ‘Harry Potter’ movies. Check out the trio then and now!
Can you believe it’s been 15 years? Fifteen actual years since the beloved Harry Potter trio casting news was announced. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were just youngsters when they were cast as Harry, Hermione and Ron in 2000, and they’ve held a special place in our hearts ever since. Harry Potter forever!
Aug. 21, 2000 is a day that will be remembered forever. We had all read the Harry Potter books that had been released, and it was essential that the actors cast as Harry, Hermione and Ron were perfect. Well, Daniel, Emma and Rupert were spot-on.
The hashtag “#15YearsOfDanEmmaRupert” began trending on Twitter on Aug. 21, and fans began posting fond memories, including photos, of the trio. BBC Entertainment Correspondent Lizo Mzimba also posted the original press release announcing the cast.
“We searched through all Muggle and Wizard households to find just the right young people to play Harry, Ron and Hermione and we have found them in Dan, Rupert and Emma,” Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the President of Warner Bros. Pictures at the time, said in the statement. “These are magical roles, the kind that come around once in a lifetime, and they required talented children who can bring magic to the screen.”
Honestly, today is just an emotional day. The last time Daniel, Emma and Rupert were on the big screen together was in 2011 for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2. It’s been four years since then! It’s time for a reunion, don’t you think, Muggles?
