‘Grey’s Anatomy’ will be shifting its focus to Alex and Jo in season 12. Last season, the pair got pushed to the backburner because of Derek’s storyline, but Shonda Rhimes is promising fans that this season will feature a ‘real focus’ on Jalex. Get the scoop!
Get ready for a huge dose of Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo (Camilla Luddington) in the upcoming season of Grey’s Anatomy. The series will be putting Meredith’s good pal Alex front and center in season 12 along with his longtime love Jo. Shonda Rhimes is assuring fans that there is so much story left to tell for Alex and Jo, and we’ll really get to know them as a couple this season.
“We had a lot of stories we wanted to tell with them last season, and I promised the fans, ‘We’re going to tell all these Alex and Jo stories…,’” Shonda told our sister site TVLine. “And then we had to take a left turn because Patrick [Dempsey] was leaving. And now we want to tell a lot of those stories — except in a lighter way. So there’s a real focus on them this season.”
Shonda realizes that we haven’t “gotten to know” Jo and Alex as a couple or individuals. Alex is far from the man we knew at the beginning of the series. “I feel like we didn’t get to know Jo the way we should,” Shonda continued. “And Alex is sort of a grown man now; it’s time to watch that happen.”
At the end of season 11, Jo and Alex got their first official place together. During their adorable and emotional scene in the finale, Alex realized that Jo had never said “I love you” to him before. “I didn’t think that I had to,” Jo said, right before they shared a passionate kiss. Swoon!
Grey’s Anatomy season 12 premieres Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
