On the final episode before the semifinals, ‘America’s Got Talent’ gave us the option to save one act, sending ’em through to the next round in live time on the results show. Audiences saved Ira the puppet and we could not be more pleased!
The very talented puppet, Ira (and the man who controls him), found himself in the bottom three on the Aug. 19 episode of America’s Got Talent, alongside Blue and Freckled Sky. Luckily, before we rounded out our semifinalists, viewers were given the chance to text to save contestants’ lives, voting for who of the three to save. Following his ridiculously incredible performance on the previous night, professing his love once again to judge Mel B via the Tom Petty classic, “It’s Not Unusual,” Ira’s unique talent and flare were clearly the only option.
Every single time we’ve seen Ira perform, his nearly-supernatural abilities are stunning and, as cheesy as it sounds, you really do feel as though you’re witnessing something special, forgetting all the time that this is a puppet and not a live being.
Importantly, Ira’s schtick never gets old, a risk which many of the AGT acts often run with their antics. He captivated us from his very first performance, and he’s managed to hold onto it ever since.
Speaking of that first performance, remember how incredible it was? He sang the old-as-time classic, “You Are So Beautiful,” and you’d think it’d be kinda bizarre to see what is essentially a stuffed animal/human hybrid sing such a romantic song. However, dedicating it to his fav judge, Mel, it was the perfect blend of sweet and hilarious. The exact same could be said of his following performance of Marvin Gaye‘s very sexy smash, “Let’s Get It On.”
Ira’s act is heartfelt enough to hit you in the feels, silly enough to put a smile on your face, and utterly amazing enough to remind you that you’re watching some of the country’s most jaw dropping talent.
Do you think Ira deserved the save? Do you think he has what it takes to win the whole thing?
