This is the sweetest, Tay! The pop superstar took time out of her concert in California on Aug. 15 to dedicate a special performance of her song ‘Never Grow Up’ to her newborn godson, Leo Thames. Seriously, how lucky is this little boy?!
Taylor Swift, 25, has been surprising fans of her 1989 World Tour with no shortage of celebrity appearances over the last few months, but on Aug. 15 she did something she’s never done before. The “Shake It Off” singer stopped her show in Santa Clara, Calif. to dedicate a special heartfelt performance to her newborn godson — pal Jaime King, 36, and husband Kyle Newman’s second child, Leo Thames. Watch the video below and prepare to feel so many things!
Before performing the tribute song, Taylor opened up to the sold-out crowd about meeting her godson for the first time, and how it ultimately changed her perspective about the song, which originally appeared on her 2010 album, Speak Now. “I wrote it when I was like 18 or 19, but my friend just had a baby and she made me godmother of it and I was holding this little baby the other night, and I was just thinking differently,” Taylor revealed to the crowd. “When you’re holding onto something that’s so innocent and so perfect and has no idea what’s coming for it with the world. The world is going to throw so many things at you as we grow up.”
Luckily for Tay, she already wrote the perfect song to encapsulate her feelings. “To you, everything’s funny/You got nothing to regret,” she began to sing. “I’d give all I have honey/If you could stay like that. Oh darling don’t you ever grow up, don’t you ever grow up/Just stay this little.” Awww!
While Jaime and Theo weren’t actually in attendance that evening, the actress did see a clip of her bestie’s performance and shared her appreciation on social media. “This is so beautiful Tay – Leo Thames is so blessed,” she tweeted.
The Grammy award-winning singer met her incredibly lucky godson just three weeks ago. The proud godmother captured their first interaction on Instagram, where she once again quoted lyrics from “Never Grow Up” in dedication to baby Leo. ”Your little hand’s wrapped around my finger and it’s so quiet in the world tonight…(sic)” she captioned the adorable photo. So yeah, it’s pretty official: Taylor Swift is now the world’s greatest godmother.
