We’re sobbing right now. Just when we thought we were finally ready to accept that Nina Dobrev left ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ she gave a touching tribute to her character, Elena Gilbert, at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards, and a wave of emotions came over us. Please make it stop!

While accepting multiple awards on stage at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards, Nina Dobrev took an opportunity to not only say goodbye to her Vampire Diaries character, Elena Gilbert, but promise fans that “change is coming” and it’s not so scary. In fact, she said Season 7 is “going to be fun,” even if it’s without her.

Upon arriving at the mic, Nina jokingly put a pair of vampire teeth in her mouth, but then she took them out and said, “That’s right. I don’t need these anymore.” The audience immediately sighed with sadness. She then began her speech:

“So the last few months have been a pretty big change for me. Change — it’s a scary word, or at least I used to think that. Because it meant new beginnings, new beginning with a future that was unknown. But change is necessary. Necessary for you to grow and learn and to better yourself because everything in life comes to an end, and as this chapter of my life comes to an end, I look back at it with a grateful heart and I smile. Just like my character, Elena, I started the show as a young girl, and together we grew up. We’ve grown up and over the last six years, we’ve become women. These were six incredible years that I’ve had the pleasure of sharing with all of you guys! I mean, we wouldn’t be here with you — I wouldn’t be here with you. I wouldn’t be here without [executive producers] Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson. They changed my life with this role. Sorry, three… four roles. It’s hard to keep track these days. But yeah, so thank you guys — each and every single one of you. I love you. And thank you for coming along with me on this amazing journey. So remember, change is coming, so hold on and enjoy the ride, alright? It’s going to be fun.”

Way to make us cry, Nina. Well, at least she said the future of The Vampire Diaries will “be fun.” We can’t wait to see what Season 7 holds!

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Were you sad to see Elena go? Do you hope she’ll return to the series before it ends? Vote in our poll and tell us how you feel!
