Country singer turned actress! Jennifer Nettles is making big career move and diving into acting — and her first role will be in the TV movie, ‘Dolly Parton’s Coat Of Many Colors,’ a biopic about the legendary country singer. But who will she be playing?!
Dolly Parton’s childhood life is being made into a movie, so it only make sense that another Grammy-winning country artist would have a starring role, right? Jennifer Nettles, who is part of the country duo Sugarland, landed her first acting gig in the film! Get the scoop here.
While it would be beyond EPIC to see Jennifer playing Dolly in her prime, this movie is about the 69-year-old’s life before fame, meaning her character will be a child. So Jen will be portraying the closest thing — Dolly’s mom, Avie! It was also announced that Ricky Schroeder will play her husband, Lee, the family patriarch.
Dolly grew up in Tennesse in the 50s with 11 siblings, so things are bound to get pretty hectic for the family in the film. The singer has previously described her family growing up as “dirt poor,” and their hard times were part of some of Dolly’s earliest songs, including “Coat Of Many Colors,” which the title of the movie is named after.
Alyvia Lind, 8, will be playing a 9-year-old Dolly, and the lucky young actress got the new delivered from the movie’s subject herself! It was such a sweet moment, and Alvyia was absolutely THRILLED to hear the exciting decision. Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors doesn’t have a release date yet, but will air on NBC sometime during the 2015-16 season.
Tell us, HollywoodLifers: Do you think Jennifer Nettles is a good casting choice for this movie? Will you be tuning in?
