You guys, we’re freaking out a little bit. The end is near for ‘Downton Abbey’ with its final season kicking off in January, and while we’re excited to see it return, this first photo is seriously lacking.
Where is Branson? Where is Rose? These are two major questions we have after glancing at the first look at season six of Downton Abbey, the final season. You may remember that during the Christmas special, both characters — played by Allen Leech and Lily James — were planning to move to the US, so maybe that’s where they are?
Masterpiece haven’t yet commented on the absence of the characters, but we’ve got to assume they will be making appearances during the final season. We can at least hope, right?
However, we have been getting quite the nostalgia these past few weeks since #lastdaysofdownton started trending on social media and pictures of the cast have been floating around all over the place. Specifially, Matthew Crawley and Lady Mary reunited. Yes, Dan Stevens, 32, and Michelle Dockery, 33, reunited at the he reunited when Downton Abbey was honored with a Special Award by BAFTA on Aug. 11 — and they posted this adorable photo together.
Additionally, Laura Crawley (Lady Edith Crawley) shared a photo on August 13, with Michelle, writing “Chilling with my @theladydockers … Trying to forget filming ends tomorrow 🙈 #LastDaysOfDownton.” Just excuse us while we sob our eyes out into our handkerchief.
Don’t Say Goodbye Yet
However, it may not be the absolutely end — there’s always hope for a movie.
“There’s rumor and speculation,” Carnival Films chief Gareth Neame said. “I’m not denying anything; I think a Downton movie could be a wonderful thing. But we don’t have a script or plan yet,” he said – “yet” being the word the assembled press seized upon.
Do you think Branson and Rose will be back? Let us know.
