Kelly Rutherford is standing strong! The ‘Gossip Girl’ star put her ex husband, Daniel Giersch, on blast after he accused her of ‘child abduction’ for refusing to send her kids back to Monaco!
Kelly Rutherford, 46, is “a mother first” and she won’t send her two precious kids, Hermes, 8, and Helena, 5, back to Monaco without a fight. Her ex-husband, Daniel Giersch, 41, called her actions “child abduction,” but the Gossip Girl star defended her decision to keep her kids with her in the U.S. — making it clear that she will protect her children no matter what!
Kelly has stayed strong throughout her messy and emotional custody battle, and she has no plans on backing down. “My first priority is to protect my children,” Kelly told Good Morning America on Aug. 10. “Their safety is my priority. I’m a mother first, and from the beginning, I said I would fight for my children. I think most parents would.”
Good for you, Kelly! After spending the summer with Hermes and Helena, she was supposed to fly them back on Aug. 7 to live with Daniel, who has full-custody. Instead, she made the difficult decision to extend their stay in the U.S., going against court orders. “It put me, as a parent, in an odd place because if nobody’s taking jurisdiction, how do you put your children on a plane to a foreign country not knowing what’s going to happen?” the Gossip Girl actress asked.
Daniel won full custody of the kids in 2012, after a California judge sent them to live with him in France after his U.S. visa had been revoked. For years, Kelly has fought to bring Hermes and Helena back home, however, neither California or New York court systems claim to have jurisdiction in the case. After three long years of fighting, Kelly was temporarily awarded sole custody of the kids.
“Temporary means they come back to their own country so what Kelly’s doing is really just respecting what the court said in 2012,” Kelly’s lawyer Wendy Murphy told GMA. “They’re American citizens. They have a right to live in their own country.” Keep on fighting, Kelly!
