Ouch! Yankees player Brett Gardner got hit in the head by a home run ball that was thrown back onto the field by a fan — that must have hurt! Watch the video!

During the fourth inning of Toronto’s 2-0 victory over New York at Yankee Stadium on August 9, Blue Jays player Jose Bautista hit a home run and a fan decided to throw it back. It’s a tradition for fans to throw opposing home run balls back onto the field, but this time, the ball hit Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner right in the head — see what he has to say about the “unfortunate” situation!

“It’s unfortunate it hit me where it did, but it is what it is. I got a hard head, so it’s all good,” Brett told ESPN after the incident.

“I think they were probably saying I suck, I think. I’m not sure,” Brett laughed. “I try to block them out most of the time. The home run [Jose] hit was so far — I don’t know how far the ball got thrown back in, but it wasn’t like it was coming in from the second row. So whoever hit me I probably couldn’t have heard them if they tried to say anything anyway. It is what it is.”

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was not happy about the situation. He said, “We need to tell the fans, ‘You can insult, but you cannot assault. We know you’re upset. We lost three in a row. We’re sorry. But just keep it to insults, not assaults.”

HollywoodLifers, do you think it should be forbidden to throw balls back into the field? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
