Charles Kelley is going to be a daddy! The Lady Antebellum singer and his wife Cassie McConnell Kelley have happily announced they are expecting their first child, while also explaining how difficult the road was for them to becoming parents.
Congratulations are in order for Charles Kelley, 33! The Lady Antebellum singer has announced that he is expecting his first child with his wife Cassie McConnell Kelley, making him the third and final member of the band to become a parent. And with the announcement, he and Cassie shared the story behind their struggle to get pregnant in the first place — and it only makes you more happy for them!
Charles and Cassie announced the exciting news on her lifestyle blog, Womanista on Aug. 7. “Charles and I are SO BEYOND EXCITED to share with y’all that we are expecting a baby,” the mother-to-be wrote alongside a photo of the smiling couple holding up coffee mugs featuring the words “father” and “mother.” “He or she is due in February and we are so happy we can hardly stand it. Like, ecstatic and I’m crying even as I type those words!” Awwww!
Along with the joyous news, Cassie also used the occasion to open up about the couple’s fertility struggles for the first time. Cassie revealed that she and her singer-songwriter husband, who wed in the Bahamas in 2009, have been trying to conceive for several years. “Many months went by with negative pregnancy tests and a lot of shared frustration … We went through several years of trying before finally seeing our fertility doctor in Nashville this past November,” she wrote. “When all was said and done our doctor informed us that we had about a 1 percent chance of conceiving a child naturally. Yeah. 1 percent.” How awful.
Thankfully, the couple hung in there and after numerous tests and a whole lot of hope, their dreams finally came true. “I woke up one morning in June and there it was, a positive pregnancy test. I was in shock. Happy shock, but shock.”
Cassie says she plans to share stories from her pregnancy on Womanista in hopes of inspiring other women who’ve faced similar struggles. “I share our story because it’s a happy and hopeful one,” she adds. “My prayer is that if you are struggling with trying to conceive a child, you will remain hopeful.”
We wish the beautiful couple and their future child all the best!
