OMG! Taylor Swift was caught totally off guard when a fan grabbed her leg during her show in Canada on Aug. 4 — but she’s not the first singer to have a scary fan encounter onstage. Here are six others who have also brought new meaning to ‘the show must go on!’
Taylor Swift, 25, is the ultimate professional, but even she had to take a quick pause when an overzealous audience member hit her on the leg while she was performing in Edmonton for her 1989 tour on Aug. 4. Click through the gallery to check out other artists who know just how freaked Taylor was probably feeling in that moment — because they went through the same thing! The incident was, understandably, quite scary for the “Shake It Off” singer — and its as all caught on video. She was super into her performance of “Bad Blood” when the fan tried to grab hold of her ankle, and jumped back in fear, having to take a pause from singing the lyrics as she glared in the direction of her attacker with a shocked expression. Truly a pro, the 25-year-old almost immediately continued with the song, and security quickly approached the audience member. Phew!
Of course, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened to an artist. In fact, Tay is in company of some of her close friends! During a Maroon 5 concert in April, a female fan rushed the stage to hug Adam Levine, 36, who, creeped out, backed away at first, but eventually welcomed the girl with a hug after realizing she posed no threat. Still, he later described the experience as “super terrifying.” No kidding!
When a fan tried to reach out at Tim McGraw, 48, at an Atlanta show in July 2014, things got pretty serious. As a sudden reaction, the country star appeared to slap the female audience member, who threatened a lawsuit over the incident! “At the end of the night during the encore, Tim was singing out in the audience and someone grabbed onto his leg and wouldn’t let go as he was moving through the crowd,” Tim’s rep said at the time. “He instinctively swatted to try and keep them from ripping his jeans (which they succeeded at doing!), and so he could get to more fans who were trying to slap hands with him before the end of the show. He didn’t know who had grabbed him and was simply trying to keep his pants from being torn.” Luckily, the issue was resolved outside of the courtroom.
We know Justin Bieber, 21, fans are super dedicated, but this one took things to the next level! While the Biebs was performing in Dubai in May 2013, a member of the crowd barreled onto the stage while Justin was singing at a piano. Security responded immediately, and while the “Where Are U Now” singer was able to escape the fan’s grasp, the situation became so intense, that the piano was knocked over and couldn’t be used for the remainder of the show! “All is fine. A man ran on stage during “Believe” and tried to grab Justin and knocked the piano over,” Justin’s rep said. “He was a fan. Security detained the young man. All was fine and Justin continued the show.”
Nicki Minaj, 32, loves her Barbs, but even she has to put her foot down sometimes! The rapper was proudly talking to her audience during a July 2012 in Miami when a fan rushed onstage and tried to wrap his arms around her. When security stepped in, the man seemingly tightened his grip, dragging the 32-year-old with him for a few steps before he was pulled off the stage. Of course, Nicki continued the show effortlessly, barely fazed!
No body part is safe for Justin Timberlake, who had his behind grabbed by an audience member while performing in Philadelphia in Feb. 2014. He totally kept his cool, though, expertly swatting the hand away and not missing a beat in the song. Maybe he’s used to it by now?
Closing out our list is Zac Brown Band, who had some professional help when a fan jumped on their stage in Milwaukee earlier this summer. While the male fan seemed pretty harmless, simply dancing in place while the band played, Houston Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt was clearly not happy about the interruption — because he completely pummeled the guy to the ground! “Nobody messes with @zacbrownband,” he tweeted afterward. And since his victim was, luckily, okay, we can’t help but laugh about this one now!
Tell us, HollywoodLifers: Who do you think handled their fan interruption the best?
