Don’t mess with Salma Hayek! Donald Trump’s comments on Mexican immigrants offended the actress, so she has decided to fire back ahead of the first Republican debate. In a recent statement, she refers to the presidential candidate as ‘dumb’ and ‘uninformed.’
Salma Hayek, 48, has been outspoken on her views regarding Donald Trump, 69, and his controversial comments on immigrants in the United States. Now, less than a week before the first Republican debate, the Mexican-born actress has spoken out once again, this time slamming the businessman for being “uninformed” and using immigrants as a political tool.
Appearing on Good Morning America on Aug. 5, Salma didn’t hold back when the issue of Donald Trump’s highly offensive remarks about Mexican immigrants came up. “Immigrants are an important force of work in the United States,” said the star. “Anybody who is informed knows this.” The actress continued to say that she’s worried people are taking what Donald says as fact, while the politicians continue to use the issue of immigration to “polarize and get votes.” “I think it is more for hype,” she continued. “That is, Republicans and Democrats have been using these people and this problem as a political tool for votes.”
But it doesn’t stop there. Prior to her Good Morning America appearance, the actress/producer also sat down with the L.A. Times to further air her grievances over the Don’s remarks. “I’m not insulted because I cannot be insulted by stupidity,” she said. “Everybody’s entitled to have uninformed opinions. Everybody’s entitled to be dumb. But I’m not dumb, so I see through the manipulation. We have something to learn from this. That is that the educated people or the people with great human values have to wake up, because they are under the illusion that most of this country is like them and sometimes they don’t even go to vote.”
Salma is just one of a handful of famous Mexican and Latino stars, including Shakira, 38, and Ricky Martin, 43, who have publicly condemned the GOP frontrunner, following his headline-making remarks on June 3. In the wake of the controversy, the business mogul has gone on to face a number of setbacks. First, Spanish language broadcaster Univison dropped his Miss America beauty pageant and then, NBC followed suit by dropping not only Miss America, but Celebrity Apprentice as well. Macy’s also announced that they will no longer carry his clothing line in their stores, although, Trump claims that he dumped them first. Yeah…right.
