We can’t even handle this right now. Shonda Rhimes just squashed any hopes we had for Katherine Heigl returning to ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ During an interview with HollywoodLife.com’s sister site TVLine, Shonda said she’s ‘done’ with Izzie Stevens and her storyline. Ugh.
First, Grey’s Anatomy boss Shonda Rhimes killed Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), and now, she just killed our dreams. During a recent interview, Shonda said she has absolutely no interest in bringing Katherine Heigl back to the series for any number of episodes. When asked about the possibility of Izzie Stevens returning, Shonda said “no,” shook her head and “shut the interviewer down hard.”
“I’m done with that story. I’ve turned that idea over in my mind a thousand times and thought about how it would go. And I don’t think so,” she told HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site TVLine at ABC’s Television Critics Association press tour-themed bash at the Beverly Hilton on Aug. 5.
We’re super bummed, but maybe it’s for the best. When Katherine was asked about returning in June, she said there was no truth to the rumors, and when asked if she wanted to come back, her response was less than promising. “I think that… I don’t know how to answer that, I’m sorry,” she told Entertainment Tonight. On a positive note, she did say she remains grateful for the time she spent on the show.
“It’s been this incredible thing,” she further explained. “It was just this incredible experience for me. It changed the course of my life and career and I couldn’t be more grateful. I just hope it goes for as long as they all want it to.”
Katherine Heigl starred on Grey’s Anatomy from 2005-2010.
