Mmm whatcha say?! The O.C. premiered 12 years ago on Aug. 5, and we miss the Cohens more and more everyday! HollywoodLife.com has rounded up the ten most unforgettable moments in the show’s history.
Californiaaaaaa, here we come (again)! The O.C. premiered on Aug. 5, 2003, and we can hardly believe how fast time flies — and how long it’s been without seeing Ryan in a wife-beater and hearing Seth and Summer’s banter. There are so many unforgettable moments on the show, but here’s a list of our top ten! Watch the clips and let us know what your favorite is.
1) “Welcome to the O.C. b*tch!”
Classic. Luke (Chris Carmack) says the famous words to Ryan (Ben McKenzie) after beating up him and Seth (Adam Brody) in the pilot. It sets the tone for the series by establishing Seth and Ryan’s brotherly bond!
2) Ryan Rushes To Kiss Marissa On New Year’s Eve
This basically established two things: love is real, and Ryan and Marissa (Mischa Barton) were meant to be. It’s also the first time they say “I love you!” Marissa goes to Oliver’s penthouse New Year’s party alone, and just as she’s thinking Ryan is a no-show, he barges through the door with seconds to go until midnight and gets that NYE kiss.
3. Seth Declares His Love For Summer On Top Of The Coffee Cart
Seth and Summer (Rachel Bilson) had many epic moments — after all, they’re Seth and Summer! However, when Seth stands on top of the coffee cart and shuts down her Valentine’s Day kissing booth to profess his love for her, they instantly became the show’s best couple. He says his true feelings in front of everyone, including Anna, who adoringly approves.
4. Ryan Leaves Orange County To Be With Theresa
So. Emotional. So. Many. Tears. While Hallelujah plays, Ryan heads back to Chino to be with a pregnant Theresa. Seth’s world is left in pieces, and he too, decides to take off, leaving nothing but a note for his parents and Summer before sailing away on a boat.
5. Marissa Makes Out With Alex Behind Julie Cooper’s Back
Marissa and Alex (Olivia Wilde) were arguably the best couple. Definitely the hottest. During Marissa’s “rebellious” phase in season two, Marissa begins dating Alex, and it’s hilarious when they make out behind Julie’s back! Like, literally right behind her back.
6. The shocking revelation that Lindsay Is Caleb’s daughter.
Our worlds were turned upside down when we find out that Lindsay is Caleb’s illegitimate daughter. Even more shocking? She was Ryan’s girlfriend! Immediately, their relationship became wrong on so many levels, seeing as though Lindsey could technically be considered Ryan’s aunt…
7. Caleb Has A Heart Attack And Drowns In The Pool
Did anyone see this coming?! Julie and Caleb’s marriage had been on the rocks, and just when Caleb wanted to make things work again, he has a heart attack and falls into the pool — and it was too late for Julie to save him before he drowns. RIP, Caleb, who much to everyone’s surprise, died a broke man.
8. Seth and Summer’s EPIC Spiderman Kiss
Seth and Summer were broken up, but their hearts had always belonged to each other. When Summer was about to jet to Italy with Zach, she breaks things off with him and heads straight to the Cohen house in the pouring rain. Much to her surprise, she finds Seth on top of the house in a Spiderman costume hanging upside down, and they recreate that epic Spiderman kiss. And get back together.
9. Marissa Shoots Trey!
One of the most dramatic moments in O.C. history, Marissa walks into a nasty physical fight between Ryan and his delinquent brother Trey, and picks up the gun and shoots him. This moment also popularized Imogen Heap‘s song “Hide and Seek,” and created one of the best Internet memes.
10) Marissa’s dramatic and tragic death
We are still not over this and weep every time we see the clip. As Ryan drives Marissa to the airport, Volchok is on the hunt to kill Ryan, and starts chasing him down the highway. He bumps his car into Ryan’s causing it to flip over, but it’s Marissa he kills. Her last dying words to Ryan in his arms? “I love you.” RIP.
