It’s almost here! We’ll FINALLY find out the identity of Charles/’A’ on the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ summer finale Aug. 11, but after 5.5 seasons of waiting and countless suspects, are we bound to just be disappointed by whoever is revealed?
We’re supposed to get all the answers we’ve been waiting for during the Pretty Little Liars Season 6 midseason finale on Aug. 11, including (FINALLY!), the identity of “A,” but I have to admit, I’m a little concerned I won’t be satisfied with the episode. I mean, we’ve been waiting five years for this, and I’m just not sure I’m going to be fully content with the writers’ explanation of ANY character being Charles.
We’ve been tricked before, but show creator I. Marlene King promises we’ll “see hear and know A” in Episode 6×10. We’ve also been told we won’t be disappointed, and to me, that means “A” is someone we’ve grown to know pretty well over the course of the show, who the writers can really explain has a motive for wanting to torture the Liars. That means it’s going to be a regular character, or someone who’s been around since the very beginning — so if you’re an Andrew or Rhys Matthews theorist, sorry, but we just aren’t on the same page.
But even though I don’t think it will be someone totally random (which would be the ULTIMATE disappointment), I’m still not convinced there’s anybody who can be “Charles” that would make total, absolute, 100%, no questions sense. Okay, I’m going to trust my gut and believe the writers that Charles is actually a boy, so ruling out all the main female characters, I’m going to break down some of our final options.
There’s two major problems I foresee: “A” will either be someone who’s been around too much, or someone who hasn’t been around enough. How can it be someone like Ezra, Toby or Caleb, who have been around the liars MUCH too often while shady s!#+ has gone down? I just don’t think there would be any way to explain how someone like this could be Charles, when they’ve been in the same room as a hooded “A” on more than one occasion.
But then there are characters like Lucas, Wren, Mike and Jason, who have only appeared on the show sporadically. This would offer the writers amazing leeway — they’d have somewhat of an explanation for the fact that ‘A’ seems to be everywhere without being seen — but will it REALLY be satisfying if someone who’s only appeared on the show on-and-off has such a major prominence?
How Will They Explain All Of This?
Basically, no matter who “A” is, I think there’s going to be some disappointment. Like, if I go back and watch every single episode over again, am I going to be able to justify that whoever is Charles actually did every little thing “A” has done? Of course, we know “A” has had helpers in the past — and even in the recent 6×08 we saw a new, mysterious Red Coat back in the picture as Charles’ sidekick — so I guess that can help to explain things, but still…I have a bad feeling. I, like a lot of PLL fans, pay a LOT of attention to detail, and I just don’t want to be disappointed! Do you hear me, I Marlene?!
Plus, the writers have a LOT to explain besides just the identity of “A” next week. Per the episode description, we’re also supposed to find out who killed Toby’s mom, who hit Alison in the head the night she went missing, who Red Coat is, who killed Bethany, who the Black Widow is, and, most importantly, WHY A has been tormenting the girls for so long. How are they going to explain all of this in 40 minutes?! I’m already stressed that this episode is going to be too rushed for my liking and then I’ll have to wait FIVE more months to learn more. HELP! I’m going to try to go into this with a positive attitude, but I’ve invested five years into this, so I really, really, really hope I’m not dissatisfied.
Alright, let me know, HollywoodLifers: Do you think the reveal of “A” will be satisfying?
