Zayn Malik revealed that he signed with RCA records on July 29, officially kicking off his solo career. Simon Cowell tweeted his congratulations to Zayn, but his former One Direction bandmates have yet to publicly show support—will they?
Since Zayn Malik left One Direction in March, the boys have both fought with and shown support for each other via Twitter. Zayn tweeted a picture of him signing with RCA records on July 29, and while this is a major step for his solo career, it also can be seen as a pretty big burn to his former group. Simon Cowell showed his support for Zayn’s achievement, and that many to wonder if the 1D guys will do the same!
Simon has always been a big supporter of Zayn, so it’s no surprise that he was happy for Zayn and his new career path with RCA. He tweeted his well wishes for Zayn, saying that he thinks the singer and the label are a perfect match.

How sweet of Simon! It’s great to see that their relationship hasn’t been ruined because of Zayn’s decision to leave the band.
To the relief of Directioners around the world, that also seems to be the case with Zayn’s relationship with Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson. Despite a few Twitter feuds with Louis over Zayn working with Naughty Boy, the boys seem to be on good terms. For the group’s 5th anniversary on July 23, Liam made sure to include Zayn in a thank-you tweet, and Zayn graciously tweeted back.
But, just as all the hard feelings seemed to fade, Zayn included the hashtag #realmusic in his announcement about signing with RCA, which could easily be taken as a serious diss to the 1D boys. And considering no one has expressed any congratulations to Zayn on his accomplishment, who knows—they could be feeling pretty burned by his comment! Even if they’re not, we’re dying to see if any of the boys will congratulate Zayn the way Simon did.
Do you think any of the One Direction guys will show their support for Zayn’s major solo career achievement, HollywoodLifers? Should they be bitter about the “real music” hashtag? Tell us below!
