So sad. Sean Malone, who starred in 2007’s ‘Gone Baby Gone,’ passed away on July 29 at age 54. The actor spent nine days in a coma before his death after nearly drowning in Boston on July 20.
Sean Malone couldn’t hold on any longer. After nine days in a coma, the Gone Baby Gone star died on July 29, the Boston Fire Department confirms. He was just 54 years old. Here are the details on the scary accident that led to his death.
The actor was swimming at M Street Beach in South Boston on July 20, when an off-duty firefighter spotted him heading out a bit too far, and jumped in the water to help. When the firefighter lost sight of Sean, who had gone underwater, he enlisted the help of three teenagers on a boat, and they were eventually able to get the 54-year-old to shore, according to The Boston Globe.
Unfortunately, Sean was already unconscious at this time, and would not wake up, despite the firefighter’s numerous attempts at CPR. He was taken to Boston Medical Center in critical condition, but after nine days in a coma, he met his sad fate. The Boston Fire Department confirmed the sad news on Twitter.
“9 days ago, off-duty firefighters along with 3 men and others raced to rescue Sean Malone from the ocean and give him a chance,” the department tweeted. “Sean Malone succumbed to his injuries this evening surrounded by his son Sean, parents and siblings at Boston Medical Center. His family would like to thank the dedicated staff at BMC, Boston EMS, those that rescued Sean and their friends for their support.”
Besides Gone Baby Gone, Sean also made appearances in The Fighter, The Forget, Whaling City and Scalpers. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
