Johnny Depp, is that you?! The actor is unrecognizable on the first poster of his latest movie, ‘Black Mass,’ where he portrays gangster Whitey Bulger. Honestly, we’re a bit frightened!
Captain Jack Sparrow has had a full-fledged makeover. Johnny Depp, 52, is taking on the role of notorious real-life Boston mobster Whitey Bulger in his upcoming film, Black Mass, and it’s a bit terrifying. The first poster for the film was released on July 29, and Johnny looks seriously ready to kill.
Johnny, you’re giving us the chills! The poster shows the actor with his arms crossed standing in front of the Boston skyline, giving a fierce and murderous stare deep into our souls. He looks almost identical to Whitey, sporting thinning grey hair and freckled skin. While he wears sunglasses in the poster, Johnny wears ice blue contacts in the film to resemble the convicted murderer even more. Yikes…
The first trailer for the film debuted in April, and it shows Johnny nailing the role of Whitey. A leader of a violent gang in Boston, Whitey, who was also the brother of a state senator, colluded with the FBI for many years, using the information to take down his rivals. Whitey was convicted on 11 counts of murder in 2013, though he’s believed to be responsible for way more. The real Whitey, now 85, is currently serving two life terms plus five years in Florida.
While we’re excited to see Johnny take on the chilling role, we’re also thrilled about the other stellar cast members in the film! Co-starring alongside Johnny include: Dakota Johnson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon,Corey Stoll, Adam Scott, Juno Temple and Joel Edgerton. We can’t wait!
Black Mass hits theaters on Sept. 18.
