The hidden-camera videos allegedly catching a Planned Parenthood employee illegally selling tissue from aborted fetuses has caused an uproar. These ‘heavily-edited’ videos are falsely portraying the organization, created solely to destroy Planned Parenthood.

First, a video was released last week by the Center for Medical Progress, allegedly showing Dr. Deborah Nucatola selling aborted fetuses with actors posing as buyers. Now a new video, released on July 21, also portrays a similar event. These shocking videos have caused major backlash, and the sole intent behind them is clearly biased. By portraying Planned Parenthood in a false light, CMP is attempting to shut down the organization’s contraceptive and reproductive health services, which millions of women depend on each year.

The first heavily-edited CMP video shows a lunch meeting between Deborah and two people posing as potential tissue buyers. During the meeting, the doctor is filmed telling the people that she uses “partial-birth abortion” techniques to deliver babies. She also talks about which organs are in high demand along with giving their price range. This is said to have been a three-year ongoing investigation into Planned Parenthood. The new video continues to attack the organization. Allegedly filmed in February 2015, CMP actors pose as a tissue-procurement company executive in a meeting with Planned Parenthood medical director Mary Gatter, as they continue to discuss fetal tissue.

Since the first video’s release there has been a ton of backlash. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul pledged to “introduce an amendment to pending Senate legislation to immediately strip every dollar of Planned Parenthood funding,” according to the New York Times. In addition, Texas Senator Ted Cruz has called for “an investigation of Planned Parenthood’s activities regarding the sale and transfer of aborted body parts.”

The chilling part about the videos is how heavily edited they are. What truth are they portraying? The full length video of the lunch meeting was over two hours long and was edited into a nine-minute clip. The parts where the doctor explains that clear consent must be given of the patient for tissue donation is not made clear. Planned Parenthood provides contraceptive and reproductive health services, along with breast, ovarian and other reproductive cancer screenings to women at low or no cost each year — and clearly the purpose of these videos are to destroy the organization. Here is Planned Parenthood’s statement to

“A well funded group established for the purpose of damaging Planned Parenthood’s mission and services has promoted a heavily edited, secretly recorded videotape that falsely portrays Planned Parenthood’s participation in tissue donation programs that support lifesaving scientific research.  Similar false accusations have been put forth by opponents of abortion services for decades. These groups have been widely discredited and their claims fall apart on closer examination, just as they do in this case.”
