So sad. Justin Lowe, the guitarist for heavy metal band After The Burial is dead. The rocker had been reported missing on July 18 after having quit the band only a month earlier. He was 32.
The body of After The Burial’s Justin Lowe’s was discovered by a hiker beneath the Arcola High Bridge near near Somerset, Wisconsin on July 21. Authorities have confirmed his identity and state that his injuries are consistent with a fall. His car was found in a parking lot nearby and no foul play is suspected. This brings to an end a sad saga that began on July 18 when the musician was first reported missing, after having released a paranoid and disturbing statement about quitting the band.
Lowe’s trouble began on June 24 when he published an extremely long, rambling and paranoid diatribe about why he was leaving the band. Among other things, the letter claims that he was at the center of a larger, unnamed conspiracy and that he was in fear for his life. After releasing this letter, members of After The Burial issued their own statement claiming that Justin was suffering from mental health issues and that they had been unable to help him. The statement said in part “Our dear friend, our brother onstage and off, has fallen into a very broken state of mind. A state that, despite our continued efforts, we have been powerless to get him out of…Justin is ill, and right now he needs more than ever to be shown that the world is not against him. He needs support and love from everyone, and to know that we only want what’s best for him.”
Justin was one of the band’s founding members. After The Burial is a “metalcore” band that was begun by high school friends in Minnesota in 2004. The band had developed a large following and released four albums, most recently 2013’s Wolves Within.
