‘AGT’ Week 9: Blind Benjamin Yonattan Steals Judges’ Hearts With Powerful Dance

Things got super emotional on week 9 of ‘AGT,’ the second round of judge cuts. A blind, teenage dancer stole the show — and the hearts of the judges — with an incredibly moving performance.

If you tuned into the July 21 episode of America’s Got Talent, we sure hope you had a box of Kleenex on hand — because not crying was not an option. Fourteen-year-old Benjamin Yonattan took the stage to deliver a jaw-dropping dance number, all made more impressive by the fact that he’s lost the majority of his eyesight. Ben, along with 6 other lucky acts, made it through to the final rounds at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. See who else got the judges’ hearts pounding!

It’s rare that a contestant on AGT touches us the way Benjamin has. The talented teen, who has a rare degenerative eye condition, revealed that his vision had worsened since his first audition. Captivated by his perseverance to perform no matter what, Heidi Klum, 41, Mel B, 39, Howard Stern, 61, Howie Mandel, 59, and guest judge Michael Buble, 39 were anxious to see what he had in store. (Spoiler alert: he shut it down!)

Serving gravity defying leaps, endless turns and perfect pirouettes, the high schooler hid any sign that he could hardly see his surroundings. With tears in their eyes and smiles on their faces, the judges expressed their awe, especially Howie, who told him: “It’s so uplifting and it’s heartbreaking. You can’t see what we get to see, but we are so lucky that we are able to see it.” Well said. Obvi, he got four yeses — and a ticket to New York!

Twenty acts performed — but only 7 could be given an opportunity to move on. The next to make a major impact? Selected of God Choir! The sensational music group belted out an oh-so-dope cover of Destiny’s Child‘s “Survivor” that would make Beyonce proud. It was a hit with the judges, who handed them four yeses — and an opportunity to advance in the competition.

And then? Another set of singers, the Craiglewis Band, who gave an almost-better-than-the-original rendition of Mary J. Blige‘s “I’m Going Down.” Their biggest fan? Grammy-winner Michael, of course. Playfully teasing the duo, he pulled back a few times before finally pressing down on the Golden Buzzer, which sent them straight to NYC to bypass any further deliberation before the next rounds in the Big Apple! “You deserve it, boys,” the “Haven’t Met You Get” crooner told them. They. Sure. Did.

Daniella Mass, a Colombian-born opera singer, Uzeyer, a quirky circus performer, Ira Bloom, an adorable puppet/comedian and DM Nation, a sexy all-girl hip hop crew also made it to the next round after giving it their all.
