Congrats! Basketball superstar, Steph Curry, was given the coveted title of Best Male Athlete at the 2015 ESPYS. Very. Well. Deserved.
Steph Curry, 27, is on a roll! After winning the NBA Finals with the Golden State Warriors, the seasoned athlete has now another exciting trophy to place on his mantle: the ESPYS award for Best Male Athlete! The dad-of-two made a point to thank his wife, Ayesha, the latest addition to their family, newborn daughter Ryan Carson — and his firstborn, Riley, 3. Aww!
We wonder if Steph ever gets tired of winning. He sure is good at it! He’s an NBA champion, an MVP — and now the latest recipient of the Best Male Athlete ESPYS Award, beating out LeBron James, JJ Watt, and Aaron Rodgers.
Presented to him by Jake Gyllenhaal, 34, the 27-year-old was more than appreciative of the trophy. And obvi, he made sure to thank those who mattered to him most: his adorable family!
“Oh man, I’m shaking. I want to thank first and foremost God for allowing me to be healthy to play the game that I love, my family for supporting me day in and day out. My wife who’s not here with us,” he said in his heartfelt speech. “We have 5-day-old daughter and she’s at home right now. I want to thank you for all you do for me. And my teammates, this is not possible without you and all the hard work we put in to it all year.”
To offset his sweet sentiments, Steph couldn’t help but throw in a joke at the end. “I never imagined myself standing on the stage on this award,” he said. “I’m 6’3,” 180 pounds soaking wet so it’s really nice to be called an athlete every once in a while so thank you very much.”
