Such sad news. Joan Sebastian, a legendary Mexican singer, lost his 16-year battle with bone cancer on July 12. He sadly died at his family’s home in Guerrero, Mexico.
Mexican singer Joan Sebastian, who is also known as El Rey del Jaripeo (the King of Mexican Rodeo), died quietly at his family’s ranch in Mexico on July 12. He was 64 years old. The Mexican singer, who has won several Grammy Awards, had been battling bone cancer since 1999.
Joan has fought incredibly hard in his cancer battle, beating the disease after his original diagnosis, but sadly, it returned in 2007. Once again, the singer found himself in remission, but the illness returned in 2012 and 2014 for a third and fourth time. In 2015, weeks before his death, he began undergoing treatment for cancer yet again.
The late performer is known for his habit of performing on horseback, and was an avid participant in Mexican rodeos. He also had an acting career, starring on the Mexican soap opera Tu y Yo, and has won five Grammy Awards, along with seven Latin Grammy Awards.
Joan was a father to eight kids throughout his successful life, with multiple different partners. Sadly, he only survived six of the children — his son, Trigo, was shot in the head at one of Joan’s concerts in 2006, and another son, jan, was shot at a nightclub in 2010.
Our thoughts are with Joan’s family during this difficult time.
