Things got a little weird on week 8 of ‘AGT,’ the first round of judge cuts. As in, the show’s guest judge Neil Patrick Harris was forced to cuddle a contestant on stage — before she got kicked out of the competition!
Poor Neil Patrick Harris, 42. The actor, who served as a guest judge on the July 14 episode of America’s Got Talent, was coaxed into an incredibly uncomfortable cuddle session from Samantha Hess, a “professional cuddler” who hoped to make it to the final rounds at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Well, she lost her chance when she got too touchy-feely. Besides NPH’s PDA faux pas, read on to see what other acts gave Mel B, 39, Heidi Klum, 41, Howard Stern, 61, and Howie Mandel, 59, something to talk about!
Okay, let’s get this out of the way first. Cuddle Queen Samantha somehow made it to the second round of the show and left the judges puzzled as to why they let her though in the first place. We didn’t get it either. Further cementing our opinion that she didn’t belong? When the 32-year-old asked Neil to come up on stage and be her “volunteer,” we were treated to one major serving of awkward sauce.
Clearly, the dad-of-two had no idea what was in store. The AGT hopeful intertwined their bodies together in positions like the “fortune cookie.” (Ummm…) Howard spoke nothing but the truth when he commented that Neil looked “miserable” throughout the act. “I just think it’s a strange thing to sit on stage and cuddle for a minute,” Neil explained. Needless to say, four red X’s (and a “no” from Neil) stopped the young lady from advancing to the live shows.
Twenty acts performed — but only 7 could be given an opportunity to move on. The first to make a major impact? Piff the Magic Dragon, of course!
After a hysterical set of comedy and magic tricks, the judges were left in awe by the man dressed in a dragon costume. Especially, Neil, who pressed down his golden buzzer and sent Piff straight to New York to compete in the final rounds! “I loved all of it,” the How I Met Your Mother alum raved. “I’m kind of blown away!”
The other six talents to join Piff in the Big Apple include Silvia Silvia, a 60-year-old crossbow champion, Freelusion, a mini-dance troupe who wowed with a multimedia-infused number, Samantha Johnson, a soulful R&B singer, Chapkis Dance Fam, a huge hip hop crew, 3 Shades Of Blue, a hunky rock band, and Myq Kaplan, a comedian who left the judges crying in laughter.
