It’s time for the 2015 Wimbledon Semi Finals, and Serena Williams is the favorite to win the tournament! She still has to get past Maria Sharapova. Their July 9 match should be one for the history books, and HollywoodLife.com wants you see these two rivals face off!
Two long-time rivals will meet on the court, as Serena Williams, 33, and Maria Sharapova, 28, will face in the semifinals of Wimbledon 2015. Maria made herself a tennis star by upsetting Serena in 2004. Will lightning strike twice? Or will Serena show why she’s the No.1 seed in the tournament!
Serena and Maria face off on Thursday, July 9. The action starts at 8 a.m. EST, so be sure you’re ready to see the epic showdown between these two. It’ll be the latest installment in this long rivalry between two of tennis’s greatest players.
Serena has been on a role during Wimbledon. She dispatched Timea Babos in an intense match, before defeating Heather Watson and making short work of Victoria Azarenka. She even beat her sister, Venus Williams, to make it to the quarterfinals. Serena is now one win away from the 2015 final. It looks like it’s Serena’s tournament to lose, but Maria is looking to snatch the championship away from her.
For Maria, this match up might mean more to her. She could still be stinging after her lost to Serena in the Australian Open final on Jan 31. Serena put Maria away 6-3, 7-6 and 7-5 — and this was while Serena was sick!
In fact, over the past decade, Serena has gone 16-0 against Maria, reports USA Today. The only major victory that Maria has over Serena is her 2004 Wimbledon upset, where Maria knocked out Serena out of the tournament. These two have only met once at Wimbledon since then, and Serena avenged her loss.
With the score 1-1 for these two at Wimbledon, who will come out on top? Will Serena make it 17-0 against Maria, or will Maria upset the Tennis world once again?
Who do you want to win, HollywoodLifers? Do you think that anyone can stop Serena? Or is this Maria’s time to shine?
