Farewell, Rosie Perez! After just one season on ‘The View,’ Rosie is exiting her co-hosting spot, executive producer Bill Wolff announced to his staff on July 7. Find out why!
The View is biding adieu to another Rosie. After Rosie O’Donnell, 53, left the live talk show in February, Rosie Perez, 50, is next in line to depart. Bill Wolff, executive producer of The View, announced the news in an email to staff on July 7, citing that Rosie is leaving her co-hosting spot… to pursue her passion for acting!
It’s been a short-lived time with Rosie as co-host, since she joined the show in September, but it’s time for her to move on! “Our friend Rosie Perez has decided to leave the show at the conclusion of this season to pursue full time her love for acting,” Bill wrote in an internal email to employees, according to our sister site Deadline. “Stepping into the role of talk show host at the same time she has been starring on Broadway has been incredibly impressive. And beyond being an enormously talented performer, Rosie is a dedicated advocate who has brought passion and insight to the panel every day.”
Speculation has been building that Rosie was going to exit the talk show, when in Jan. 2015, she took a brief break to appear on Broadway. However, Rosie O’Donnell shut down rumors of Rosie’s departure at the time.
“Rosie will always be a part of The View family, and we will welcome her back as a guest anytime to catch up,” Bill’s email continued. “We’ll plan a proper send off for her in a few weeks, but in the meantime, please join me in thanking her for her great work on the show.”
Rosie’s last day is said to be Aug. 6. There is currently no word on the future of co-host Nicolle Wallace, but Whoopi Goldberg and Raven-Symone are slated to be returning.
