What an epic game! Going head to head with Timea Babos in the second round of single ladies’ play, Serena Williams proved once more that she is (and probably always will be) the queen of the court with an incredible 6-4 win.
While Hungary’s Timea Babos is one heck of a tennis talent, she was just no match for our girl Serena Williams, 33 — who is currently on a major slaying spree at Wimbledon 2015. After dominating Margarita Gasparyan on June 29, Miss Williams decided to to the same during today’s July 1 face-off. Read on for all the details on Serena’s latest victory!
Well, that was quick! It took Serena just under an hour (59 minutes to be exact) to defeat Timea and move on to the next round. Throughout the entire match, it appeared is if Serena hardly broke a sweat (naturally) as she maintained complete control over a player who had the potential to be an incredibly dangerous opponent.
Even though she was completely scorched by Serena, Timea definitely made her best effort to keep her head in the game. You could tell Timea was super frustrated by starting off the match in the worst way possible: double faulting. How. Dreadful. She bounced back with two break points, but then she lost 8 points, basically handing over the game to Serena.
Being the current reigning champion of the famed tournament, Serena’s latest triumph might not come as a surprise — as she is arguably the most legendary female athlete to ever exist. She currently holds the most major singles, doubles and mixed doubles over any other tennis player in the game right now. Super legit.
In addition to winning the Australian Open earlier this year, Serena also showed Lucia Safarova who’s boss when she beat her at the French Open, gaining her 20th (!!) Grand Slam win. In regards to Wimbledon, however, the 33-year-old hasn’t walked away with a title since 2012 — so today’s win is quite monumental.
Last year, she was defeated by Alize Cornet in round 3 and then was beat by Sabine Lisicki in round 4 — obvi, making us even more proud of the way she killed it on the court today.
