We are SO saddened by the news that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are divorcing, but the split has actually been in the making for quite some time. The couple even tried to fix their marriage with years of therapy, but, ultimately, it just wasn’t enough.
Ben Affleck, 42, and Jennifer Garner, 43, finally announced their decision to divorce on June 30, but they didn’t just end their relationship without a fight. In fact, the couple was actually separated for ten months before they decided to officially call it quits, a new report claims.
Speculation of a split has surrounded Ben and Jen for months, but they continued to put on a solid front during outings with their three children. However, the pair have really been separated for ten months now, according to TMZ, and that decision came after a LOT of marriage counseling.
The site reports that the A-list stars were in therapy for more than two years before announcing their divorce in a joint statement on June 30. And since this has been months in the making, there was nothing specific that happened recently that can be considered a “breaking point.”
“They went to marriage counseling and tried to make change in their lives to heal their marriage but it wasn’t enough,” an insider explained to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “It just didn’t seem like Ben could do enough — and truthfully, maybe he didn’t want to. Jen felt his heart wasn’t in it.”
But, as HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY reported, there was a specific reason Ben and Jen decided to wait until June 30, one day after their 10th wedding anniversary, to finally file after months apart. “Generally, in California, a 10-year marriage is ‘long term,’ which basically allows for courts to retain indefinite jurisdiction over the issue of spousal support,” a Certified Family Law Specialist told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
This means that the court is able to make decisions regarding matters between the exes. And since the once-in-love duo didn’t sign a prenup, as Star Magazine claims, Jen could stand to make a decent amount from their reported $150 million net worth. “She thinks she should be rewarded for [raising their children],” the mag reports, “She tended to the kids while he was off filming and partying. She’ll do anything for those kids, even fighting mercilessly for Ben’s money.” To hear more about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, head over to iTunes and download the HollywoodLife podcast for free!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Ben and Jen will EVER get back together? Are you shocked they waited so long to divorce after months of separation?
