Another week, another crazy episode of ‘Pretty Little Liars.’ This week, Mona is back, and her return totally switches things up, as a SHOCKING, and totally random, new ‘A’ suspect from her past is revealed.
Whoa, WHAT just happened?! On this week’s Pretty Little Liars, new romances heat up and things are creepier than ever before. But, most importantly, Hanna and Spencer’s return to Radley gives new light on Charles DiLaurentis, and a sneaky photo reveals a new truth about A we totally did NOT see coming!
Things in this week’s episode start out immediately creepy, with Spencer slowly making her way through a dark, mysterious house. She sees a strange young girl (you guys, it’s Maddie Ziegler from Dance Moms!) dressed in ratty clothes, dancing through an abandoned room, and in between the dark scenes, Spencer gets flashbacks to her time in Charles’ dollhouse. We’re not used to seeing Spencer so frightened and out of control, and she’s clearly been super affected by whatever went down when the girls were locked up. The scene, which is later revealed to be a dream sequence, ends with Spencer picking up a pair of flip flops that read, ‘C. DiLaurentis,’ as a shadow pops up from the background before she wakes up.
While discussing the nightmare with Aria, we see Spencer nibbling on the pot brownies that Ezra’s new employee, Sabrina, supplied her with in last week’s episode. But as her life is falling apart, we also find out Spencer has been elected school valedictorian…despite missing four weeks of school.
We’re taken to Hanna’s house next and…dun, dun dun…Mona’s back! She’s more scared than ever, terrified about what Alison will do to her (don’t forget: Alison was sent to JAIL for murdering Mona, and then we found out Mona faked the whole thing). But Hanna has bigger concerns, and tells Mona not to be so worried about Alison because A is still out there and that’s who they need to really be looking out for.
Meanwhile, Emily and her mom are still housing Sara Harvey, who reveals her mom finally wants her to come home. Emily doesn’t think this is a good idea, and suggests her new pal (slash possible lover because, come on, it’s Pretty Little Liars) tries to get legally emancipated. Speaking of new lovers — Aria and Clark from the dark room have another scene together, and he’s totally flirting, complimenting her work and urging her to enter her photography in an art contest. The winner gets a fellowship in Los Angeles — far, far away from Rosewood — and Aria is immediately interested.
As the episode continues, Mona continues to remain on edge, as she’s putting off going to the police to confess to the whole faking murder thing. And the situation is blown even more out of proportion when Mona and Hanna run into Lesli at The Brew. Lesli is TOTALLY pissed at Mona for making her an accomplice in the perjury crime — In case you forgot, Lesli took the stand alleging that Alison and her friends, particularly Hanna, were the ones behind Mona’s death, which was clearly a total lie — and she holds nothing back in telling Mona off.
Later, Hanna gets a text from Mona, who is now petrified of both Alison AND Lesli. But the ladies can’t have Mona falling apart — she knows Radley better than all of them, and they need to get inside Radley to find anything they can on Charles DiLaurentis! As Hanna and Spencer discuss how they’ll do it, Hanna notices Spencer is a bit on edge, and asks, ‘Are you buzzed?!’ Uh-oh, Spence — someone’s onto you!
‘Pretty Little Liars’: New Romances Heat Up
Aria and Clark’s relationship continues to heat up as they head out to take photographs together, but she gets pretty creeped when he takes a photo of her (“There was a shadow on your face,” he claims). But Clark didn’t seem to notice or care about her reaction, and asks her out on a date instead! Aria politely turns him down, and then he admits he’d seen her on the news and shows some concern, so she seems to soften up a bit.
Sparks are also flying between Alison and her new love interest, Lorenzo, the cop. He’s still trying to convince her to coach the youth soccer team, but she’s not super thrilled about the idea. During their meeting at Alison’s house, Mr. DiLaurentis comes home, and becomes very angry when he sees them hanging out alone in the house.
Meanwhile, Aria may want to start watching her back! In the next scene, we once again see Clark snapping photos of her from a distance, and she seems super jumpy to be in his presence. And, throughout all of this, Emily turns to Caleb for help in getting Sara legally emancipated, and makes it clear that the matter is urgent.
‘Pretty Little Liars’: Spencer Kicks Her New Habit
Spencer finally appears to be ready to face her drug problem firsthand, and sneaks into the back of an AA meeting — but she’s caught totally off guard when she sees her former drug counselor (remember the Adderall addiction?), Dean, is there, too! She almost sneaks out without him noticing, but gets called out by the group leader for eating the refreshments as she’s walking out of the room. BUSTED!
While in a darkroom with Clark, Aria checks out the negatives from her new man’s photos — and sees A in the background! But she can’t exactly steal them or look too closely at them without him thinking she’s a total weirdo, and Emily is no help because she’s far too concerned about Sara in the moment.
Hanna has another showdown with Lesli in The Brew, but things are far less hostile. Lesli apologizes, and Hanna urges her to forgive Mona, as well. “Mona’s complicated, but she’s not the real monster here. That person hasn’t been caught yet,” Hanna explains. Next, Aria distracts Clark and is finally able to steal the negatives to his photos, but we’ll have to wait and see what they hold, because we’re immediately taken to Dean’s car — he drove Spencer home after the meeting, and he gave her a much-needed pep talk. And hey, it worked! Spencer handed over her pot cookies!
But as one problem is solved, Spencer then runs into Mona outside the DiLaurentis home, where she’s leaving a letter for Alison in the mailbox. The girls talk about their time in Charles’ dollhouse, and Spencer questions whether or not Mona remembers a young girl (a “young Alison”) or the room from her creepy nightmare at the beginning of the episode. Mona has no recollection, but Spencer seems pretty convinced that she’d been in the room before, and not just in her dreams.
‘Pretty Little Liars’: New ‘A’ Clues Complicate The Mystery
To continue investigating, Spencer and Hanna head to Radley, but unfortunately Mona couldn’t get away from her mom’s watchful eye to accompany them. On the wall of one of the psychiatric ward’s dark hallways, Spencer sees a poster of the little girl from her dream! And as they continue to navigate their way through, she comes across the strange room from the same nightmare. So that’s where she knew it from…not Charles’ dollhouse! The girls find Charles’ file , which shows that he donated his organs, seemingly confirming that he’s dead. Then things take a super creepy turn when they find a life-like doll drowning in a bathtub. Seriously, when are these girls going to STOP doing things in the pitch black?
Aria gets a closer look at Clark’s photos, and a mysterious, black-hooded figure is clearly seen in the background of one of the pics he took at the junkyard where they were hanging out earlier — but there’s HAIR peeking out of the sweatshirt! So now….A is a girl?! Okay, seriously, this show just keeps getting more confusing! And WHO is pretending to be Charles if the REAL Charles is dead, as the documents make it seem?
Despite Mr. DiLaurentis’ warning, Lorenzo pays another visit to Alison, who tries to apologize for her father’s behavior. He’s totally understanding of the whole situation, and the two have a romantic moment that ends with him kissing her. But uh-oh, Mr. D pulls up in his car during their sweet smooch, and Lorenzo is, obviously, forced to leave without saying a word.
‘Pretty Little Liars’: Creepy Run-Ins
Emily and Sara get tattoos to celebrate the emancipation, and while Sara is holding onto Em’s phone, she sees Aria’s text with the photo of ‘A’ and news that their hooded stalker might be a girl. Shockingly, Sara admits to have seen the same hooded-figure, as recently as when they were at Caleb’s earlier that day! She’s super freaked by the whole situation, and sprints away. When Emily finally catches up, Sara is so angry Emily didn’t tell her that they’ve been hunting the hooded figure the whole time, but when the girls appear to catch another glimpse of their stalker, they get creeped and run away together. Meanwhile, Spencer and Hanna are also freaking out by noises inside Radley, but it turns out the person they hear is actually Mona, looking super guilty when they come across her in the psych ward. Well, hello, Mona — you aren’t supposed to be there!
Mona refuses to explain to Spencer and Hanna why she was following them, and eventually they find out it’s because she was stealing Lesli’s file! Wait, Lesli was in Radley, too?! Yep — and she wants it to be a secret — because she knew both Mona AND Charles while she was locked in there!
Hanna sends Alison an urgent text to come discuss the ‘breakthrough,’ but Mr. D isn’t willing to let his daughter out of his sight after her moment with Lorenzo earlier. She throws him totally off guard by bringing up Charles’ grave at Aunt Carol’s house, and storms out, leaving him confused.
The girls are now convinced Lesli might be A, and it’s also revealed that Lesli was Bethany Young’s roommate at Radley! If you forgot, Bethany is the girl who’s body was found and mistaken for Alison’s. The episode ends with Mona on the phone with Lesli, who is BEYOND pissed that the little liars found out her secret. “You always screw EVERYTHING up,” Lesli rants. Before the ending credits, we see A making another creepy doll out of a tennis ball and strands of black and pink hair. Hello, Aria!
Okay, that was INSANE. Tell us, HollywoodLifers: Do you think Lesli is ‘A’? Or WHAT do you think her involvement is? We need to know ALL your thoughts on this crazy episode!
